CONCORDIA'S KUCA PLACES FIFTH AT NCAA CROSS COUNTRY
CHAMPIONSHIP
DELAWARE,
Ohio -- Concordia University's Amanda Kuca competed at the 2005 NCAA Division
III Cross Country Championship today. The senior runner, and three-time Lake
Michigan Conference Runner of the Year, placed fifth in the event with a time of
22:06.6 in the 6K race, just 15.3 seconds behind champion Hailey Harren of
Gustavus Adolphus College.

CONCORDIA WOMEN, MSOE MEN CAPTURE LMC CROSS COUNTRY
TITLES
WEST ALLIS, Wis. -- Concordia University's women's cross country team won their
first championship since 1999, and Milwaukee School of Engineering's men's team
won their ninth-consecutive championship at Greenfield Park in West Allis this
afternoon at the 2005 Lake Michigan Conference Cross Country Championships.
The
Falcon women had five runners place in the top ten and averaged a finish of
24:39. The Falcons swept the LMC awards as senior Amanda Kuca (Lincoln, Neb.)
was named LMC Runner of the Year, teammate Ashley Vana (Milwaukee, Wis.) was
named Rookie of the Year, and Paul Paynter was voted LMC Coach of the Year by
his peers. Kuca was the fastest runner in the 6K run with a time of 22:10.69,
while Vana was the fastest freshman with at time of 25:50.13.
Wisconsin Lutheran College, which had three top ten
runners, took second place with 51 points, and an average finish of 26:05.
Edgewood College was third with an 26:56 average, and 73 points. MSOE, Alverno
College and Dominican University finished fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively.
Lakeland College and Maranatha Baptist Bible College did not qualify for a team
score due to not fielding a minimum of five runners.
The
Raider men placed all seven runners in the top 15, and had an average finish of
28:12 in the 8K run totaling 35 points. MSOE coach Larry Gardner was named LMC
Coach of the Year by his fellow coaches for winning the program's ninth
championship. Wisconsin Lutheran's second place finish was aided by LMC Runner
of the Year Tim Koepsell (New Ulm, Minn.) who had the best time with 26:45.12,
and LMC Rookie of the Year Zach Shiels (Johnson Creek, Wis.), who finished
second, with a time of 27:42.14. The Warriors finished with 56 points.
Concordia finished third with an average time of
29:02 and 104 total points. Maranatha took fourth with 104 points, while
Edgewood (131) and Dominican (149) finished fifth and sixth. Lakeland did not
qualify for a team score due to fielding a team of less than five runners.

ALL-AMERICA TEAM HONORS

-- The Edgewood College men’s cross country team has been named an Academic
All-America team by the NCAA Division III Cross Country Coaches Association. The
team combined for a grade point average of 3.25, which ranked them 37th overall
among NCAA Div. III men’s teams and second in the state of Wisconsin behind
Carthage College in Kenosha.
The Academic All-American team awards require teams
to have at least a 3.1 grade point average for the fall semester.
